HARRY Parsons scored his first Banbury United goal in a 3-1 victory over Southport.

The on-loan Swindon Town striker put the Puritans 2-1 up on the hour as they stayed second in Vanarama National League North.

Declan Evans gave Southport the lead midway through the first half, before Parsons saw a close-range effort cleared off the line.

Banbury levelled eight minutes after the break when Jack Stevens fired home Jak Hickman’s cross.

They were soon ahead as Parsons converted after rounding goalkeeper Cam Mason, who stayed down after challenging Ben Acquaye moments later and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with concussion. He was discharged that evening.

Giorgio Rasulo scored from the penalty spot 14 minutes from time after Keenan Quansah was sent off for hauling down Stevens.

Meanwhile, Oxford City were thrashed 5-0 at Welling in National League South.

Ade Azeez hit a first-half hat-trick for the full-time outfit, while former Football League forward Stefan Payne scored either side of the interval.

It ended City’s four-match winning run in emphatic fashion as they conceded for the first time since the opening-day defeat to Eastbourne Borough.

Ross Jenkins’ side drop to eighth in the table.
