He was monitored at the festival site for ‘a few hours’ until he was ‘no longer confused’, his inquest heard.

Mr Clare, a furniture removals company administrator from Sudbury, Suffolk, was given a lift back to where he was staying in Mollington, near Banbury, at around 1.30am.

His body was found in the Oxford canal by Spiceball Park at 7am that morning.

Assistant coroner Gemma Brannigan concluded that Mr Clare had drowned ‘as a result of epilepsy’. His medical cause of death was found to be drowning.
