A large crowd of people confronted police officers while they arrested a man in Oxford city centre.
A crowd estimated at 75 gathered in St Aldate's at about 6.30pm tonight as a group of police officers wrestled a man to the ground.
It is not known what the offence was in connection with, however the action stopped traffic and delayed buses for up to half-an-hour, according to reports.
A passer-by, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "It was like something out of a film. There there about six uniformed police officers pinning what appeared to be a man to the ground.
"A huge crowd of 75 people were looking on in shock – and some filming right up in the officers' faces… some were uncomfortably close. Everyone had their phones out – it looked very strange.
"Then, as he was bundled into a police van, people started having a go at them.
"While that was going on, all the buses had to stop. There were probably 25 buses backed up on High Street and St Aldate's – with no one knowing what was going on."
Thames Valley Police has been contacted for further details.
