AN inquest has opened into the death of a 63-year-old man who found decomposed in a small river in Oxford.
Derek Brant, of School Road in Kidlington, was found “unresponsive” in small river in Shire Lake Ditch, Aston’s Eyot, on November 30 last year.
The maintenance worker was found at 3.48pm near St Mary & St John Church of England Primary School and was pronounced dead by PC Jay Callan.

After a postmortem report, his cause of death has been ruled by a forensic examiner as “unascertained” due to decomposition.
At Oxford Coroner’s Court today (27), assistant coroner Judith Leach opened Brant’s inquest which will continue on Thursday, December 1 at 11.15am.
The coroner will determine how Brant died which will be noted on the ‘record of inquest’.
