LIVERPOOL youngster Max Woltman may still have a chance with Oxford United, head coach Liam Manning has revealed.

The 19-year-old forward trained with the U’s this summer and was a late substitute during the pre-season win against Swansea City.

Asked about Woltman’s situation, Manning said: “We’re talking to Liverpool and exploring what that looks like.

“It’s more of a development project than it is coming in and impacting the team straight away.

“In terms of the personality he was and the character he showed, and some of the quality he showed in glimpses, I think he’s the type of player that fits how we want to play.

“When you look at competition in his position with Ruben [Rodrigues] and Billy [Bodin], what we don’t have is the next one coming up under that.

“It depends on what the deal looks like, that’s the big bit. It’s all on what the deal looks like ultimately.”

Woltman’s debut for the Reds came in December 2021, when he replaced Takumi Minamino in stoppage time as Liverpool beat AC Milan at the San Siro in a Champions League group stage clash.

He then played the first 45 minutes at Anfield as Liverpool beat Shrewsbury Town 4-1 in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup last January.

Woltman joined Doncaster Rovers in Sky Bet League Two last season, making 14 appearances before being recalled by his parent club in January.
