Lloyds to close further 53 branches including one in Oxfordshire

Banks in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are set to be closed as part of the latest cull by the banking giants.

The new announcement means 21 Lloyds Bank, 15 Halifax and 17 Bank of Scotland sites will go between September this year and May 2024.

Among the closures will see the Kidlington branch, situated on Oxford Road, shut on September 28.

Lloyds Banking Group has already shuttered dozens of sites in 2023, having closed some 200 branches over the course of 2022.

The closures come as more people are banking online rather than in person.

A Lloyds statement said: “The world is becoming more digital than ever before and more of our customers are doing their everyday banking online.

“With more customers choosing to use digital ways to bank and manage their money, visits at this branch have fallen.

“As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to close it.”

It means the closest Lloyds bank for residents will be situated on Oxford High Street.
