Man found unresponsive in Banbury canal, inquest hears

A MAN was found unresponsive in a canal by a member of the public, a court has heard.

An inquest on Andrew Clare was opened by senior coroner Darren Salter, at Oxford Coroner’s Court on Wednesday.

Mr Clare, 55, from Sudbury, died on August 12, in Banbury.

Mr Salter said at the inquest opening that Mr Clare was ‘found unresponsive in the canal by a member of the public’.

The coroner added that Mr Clare’s cause of death remains under investigation.

A full inquest on Mr Clare will take place on November 17, Mr Salter said at the inquest opening.

It is the duty of coroners to investigate deaths which are reported to them.
