CIARON Brown picked up his 15th cap for Northern Ireland as they were denied a stoppage time equaliser by a marginal VAR decision.
Michael O’Neill’s side were beaten 1-0 away to Denmark in a Euro 2024 qualifier, leaving them second from bottom in Group H after three rounds of fixtures.
Oxford United defender Brown played the full 90 minutes on the left of a back three.
Denmark took the lead when Brown lost his footing and could only clear a left-wing cross into the path of Jonas Wind, who finished from inside the six-yard box.
Northern Ireland kept themselves in the game though and thought they had nicked a late equaliser when debutant Callum Marshall flicked the ball in from a free kick.
However, after a lengthy review which took almost five minutes, West Ham United’s 18-year-old striker was denied a dream moment on his international debut when his goal was ruled out as Leicester City defender Jonny Evans was deemed to be offside.
Denmark now lead Group H on six points, with Kazakhstan, Finland and Slovenia all matching that total.
Northern Ireland have three points, while San Marino are yet to get off the mark.
O’Neill’s team welcome Kazakhstan on Monday.
