Now a mermaid has been spotted swimming in 'Littlemore Lake'.
The underpass at the corner of Littlemore Roundabout is flooded with several metres of water as ongoing work to fix a burst water main is carried out.
Duncan Parkes tweeted a picture of the woman in a mermaid costume going for a leisurely swim in the floodwater and commented: "Nature is healing: rare sighting of an urban mermaid in Littlemore Lake!"
But the thread then showed the mermaid lying on a piece of abandoned hoarding.
He added: "Unlike their marine counterparts, urban mermaids don't require rocks to sit on – they're happy to make use of abandoned street furniture.
"More pics available on her OnlyFins page," he quipped, referring to a content sharing service.

Yesterday the Sheriff of Oxford shared pictures of himself taking a dip in the flooded footpath in protest at the time it is taking to get the leak fixed.
Barton & Sandhills councillor Mike Rowley tweeted: "Impromptu Sheriff's inspection of Littlemore Lake, formerly known as the foot and cycle path.
"I normally enjoy outdoor swimming but a drought's been declared & this water should be in the pipe. Come on @thameswater get the leak fixed!
Thames Water said the burst water main was reported to them on the August 10.
“Our engineers arrived on site within hours and have been working hard to fix the pipe.
“This is a complex repair and we’ve got temporary traffic lights in place so they can safely finish the job," they said.
