Owner’s appeal as ‘Peanut’ the schnauzer goes missing in Oxford

Sep 18, 2022

A WELL-travelled teddy went missing in Oxford – and his heartbroken owner wants him back.

Nicola Lai, 23, has had stuffed schnauzer Peanut since she was a toddler.

She was visiting Oxford from Bristol with her mum on Saturday (September 17) when, in Gloucester Green market at around 4.30pm, she noticed that her rucksack had been unzipped and the beloved cuddly toy was missing.

“We retraced our steps three times, but couldn’t find him. We spoke to all of the people who were picking up litter, but they had not seen him,” she said.

“He’s been with us since I was little and he’s very much a big part of our family.

"He travels with us; he’s been all over Asia, to places like the Philippines, Japan. He’s been to Germany, to the US. He’s more well-travelled than me.”

Oxford Mail:

Miss Lai added: “He keeps us company when the family is apart. We’re originally from Hong Kong. When I came to the UK for uni six years ago he would keep me company. When any of us is travelling or we weren’t able to see each other for a long time, he would keep us company.”

When he went missing, dapper Peanut was dressed in a grey knitted top – made by Miss Lai’s mother.

It was just one of a number of outfits in the plush pooch’s wardrobe. He also owns a Father Christmas costume and, when Miss Lai graduated from university, he too was dressed in graduation robes.

He even has his own Instagram account, @lifeofpeanutlai. His owner said: “He’s quite the character.”

Miss Lai said they had been to the Ashmolean Museum, Cornmarket and the Covered Market on the day Peanut went missing.
