Two buildings that are being redeveloped will have gender neutral toilets when they reopen, the city council has confirmed.
The East Oxford Community Centre in Princes Street and Standingford House in Cave Street will both contain gender neutral facilities once work is completed.
The move to include these facilities comes after a motion to make the council ‘trans inclusive’ was passed at an Oxford City Council meeting in November 2021.

The motion, put forward by Green councillors Chris Jarvis and Lucy Pegg, sees the council commit to ensuring all services are accessible, adding pronouns to email signatures and the creation of gender neutral toilets, amongst other steps.
Deputy leader of the Green Party Group councillor Pegg, who proposed the motion, said: “Last autumn, Green Councillors put forward proposals to make our Council and our city truly inclusive for transgender people.
“That motion was passed near-unanimously with cross-party support.
“Now, I’m delighted to see that being put into action, with the introduction of gender neutral facilities in two buildings currently being re-developed.
“This is an important step towards ensuring that all people in our city feel welcome and comfortable using toilets in these buildings.”
Leader of the Green Party Group councillor Jarvis, who seconded the motion, added:
I’m incredibly proud that Oxford City Council is taking this action to ensure that people have access to dignity and security when using the toilet.”
