KARL Robinson said he has the backing of his players after another defeat left Oxford United above the relegation zone on goal difference.

A third loss in four Sky Bet League One games sees United sit 20th in the table, above the drop zone due to having a better goal difference than Forest Green Rovers.

Chris Forino’s first half header proved the difference at the Kassam Stadium as the U’s slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Wycombe Wanderers.

Robinson said his side ‘stuttered’ when play resumed following a medical emergency in the crowd, but felt they were the better team overall.

United’s head coach added: “At the end of the day, I’m not silly – results are the single most important thing in a game and right now the results aren’t good enough.

“Off the back of the performance today, Charlton and MK – to get one point from that is soul-destroying.

“I don’t think even the most critical of people could say we didn’t deserve to win at least two of them.

“It’s just one of them situations at the moment where you have to roll with the punches and that’s part of the job we do.

“I’m in charge of the players and the staff, the board are in charge of me, and the responsibility put on me is to win games of football, and right now we’re not.

“Over the last four years, we’ve had a tremendous ride and right now is a very sticky moment.

“Right now, where we are is not acceptable for me, the players or the board, or the fans.

“If you spoke to the players, who would be the one to guide through this, I know their answer.

“Are we more together than ever? Yes, but at the end of the day, we have to win games of football.”
