KARL Robinson hopes to make multiple signings before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

The Oxford United head coach has consistently stated he wants to bring in a right back and also suggested he is targeting left back cover along with additions further forward.

The U’s have made eight signings this summer, but injuries have left them light in the early weeks of the season and five players remain sidelined.

United have this week been linked with a right back from abroad and Robinson did not quash the rumour.

He said: “Possibly, but he needs to be fit.

“I was asked the other week if players that come in have to be durable – I don’t know what durable is anymore, because the durable ones are breaking down.

“We have to look at that injury record and they have to have played consistently over a period of time.

“The window went really well in relation to recruiting for the shape that we wanted.

“We always knew we wanted cover at right back, we still need cover at left back at certain stages. These are positions we know we’ve got to get right.”

The player in question is thought to be Djavan Anderson, who most recently played for Dutch top-division side PEC Zwolle on loan from Italian club Lazio.

The 27-year-old Suriname international, who has operated in midfield and at right back in his career, has not made a competitive appearance since May.

Robinson also revealed he would like to do more business further forward, having seen his attacking options depleted by injuries.

Sam Baldock, Yanic Wildschut, Josh Murphy and Marcus Browne are all in the treatment room, paving the way for teenagers Tyler Goodrham, Gatlin O’Donkor and Slavi Spasov to get first-team opportunities this season.

Robinson said: “There’s one or two that I’d like to bring in.

“A striker is important to us. I’m bringing on Gatlin and starting James Golding (at right back), who is 18 years of age.

“I’m so proud of these young players for what they’ve achieved so far and I really believe they’re stars of the future.

“But sometimes the future is the future, it’s not the now, and they have to be protected in this moment.

“Sometimes kids get opportunities when you underperform and get injuries. They’ve certainly stood up, but we need to do more in the next 48 hours to bring players in and make sure this team gets stronger.”

The transfer window closes at 11pm on Thursday.
