Exeter City captain Pierce Sweeney believes coming away from the Kassam Stadium with a point “wouldn’t be the worst result in the world”.

Oxford United host Exeter on Saturday afternoon with both teams enjoying a strong start to the season.

Exeter currently sit second in the league but three point for either side could leave the winning team top of the league tomorrow night.

In a column for Devon Live, Sweeney said: “This Saturday’s match away at Oxford promises to be another stern test.

“As ever, it’s a game we’ll be looking to win and, if we perform to the best of our ability, I see no reason why we shouldn’t do so.

“That said, a draw wouldn’t be the worst result in the world and were the match at the Kassam Stadium to end in a stalemate we’d still have bagged 17 points from our opening nine League One fixtures, which would represent a very healthy return.”

Responding to comments, United Liam Manning said: “Port Vale said the same thing after the game, they would have been delighted to leave with a point even when we went down to and scored in the 95th minute.

“You see it as a compliment but I wouldn’t read too much into it for what that means into how they are going to set up or what they are going to do.

“For me it is going to be an extremely tough game, for them as well as for us.”
