A teenager from Watlington will appear before the Old Bailey today to be sentenced for sharing ‘white supremacy’ videos.
Oliver Riley, 18, was arrested in Gloucestershire last October for uploading racist neo-Nazi videos online.
After the teenager admitted the offences at Westminster Magistrates’ Court last month, head of Counter Terrorism Policing South East DCS Oliver Wright said: “Some of the harmful content Riley had promotes the separation of races by violent means, along with some particularly hateful content being directed at the LGBTQ+ community.”
He said the material ‘glorified terrorism’ and ‘promoted white supremacy’.
The teenager pleaded guilty to five counts including possession of a ‘document likely to be useful to a person preparing an act of terrorism’ and sending a grossly offensive message.
He was also convicted of providing a service to others enabling them to look at material that would offer ‘direct or indirect encouragement’ to prepare or instigate acts of terrorism.
Senior counter-terrorism detective Mr Wright said in July: “These are serious offences and I am glad that he at least acknowledged these offences by pleading guilty.”
The most serious of the offences he has admitted carry a maximum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment.
Riley, who was granted bail by the district judge last month, is due before a circuit court judge at the Old Bailey at 11am this morning.
