Person dies after being hit by a train near Didcot

The British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed a person was pronounced dead after being hit by a train near Didcot.

A BTP spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Steventon at 8.09pm yesterday evening (Monday, October 10) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Emergency services were on the scene and National Rail closed all lines between Didcot Parkway and Swindon.

Disruption continued until 11pm, and some trains were delayed by as much as an hour.

This is the second person to have been hit and killed by a train in Oxfordshire within the last week.

The previous incident occurred on the line near Yarnton, which police attended and train services from Oxford to Banbury were cancelled.
