POLICE are warning people to be cautious of cold callers offering to do roofing work.
Thames Valley Police are urging residents across South Oxfordshire to be aware of anybody approaching people in their front gardens or on the street offering roofing work.
Rachael Ward, corporate communications for Thames Valley Police, said: “Residents of South Oxfordshire and Vale are being warned to be cautious of cold callers offering to do roofing work.

“They may even approach you while you are in your front garden or on the street near your home.
“Many legitimate traders will be booked up, so the advice is to be wary of traders who can arrive to start the work the same or following day and push for a quick agreement to use them.
“Always make sure you receive a final total cost in writing before agreeing to any work starting.”
If someone believes they have been the victim of a “rogue trader” and wants advice, Thames Valley Police are advising reports be made to the Citizens Advice National Consumer Service on 0800 144 8848 or via the website at citizensadvice.org.uk

Oxfordshire residents can also check local traders before agreeing to get any work done through a “Buy with Confidence” scheme which has been vetted and approved by trading standards.
