Rafael Cagali already runs the two-star Da Terra in the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green and now he’s opening a second spot there this autumn in the shape of Elis. Named as a tribute to his mother, whose first restaurant and jazz bar in São Paulo was named after Brazilian musician Elis Regina, Rafael’s Elis will be taking over the space where the Corner Room used to be, and will be an intimate restaurant seating 30.
Like Da Terra, Elis will be influenced by Rafael’s Brazilian-Italian heritage but will adopt a more relaxed style, with the a la carte menu including dishes like vitello tonnato, bolinho de bacalhau, gnocco fritto, crab tagliolini verde, baby monkfish tail with black tucupi glaze, and pork chops with black beans & chimichurri. Noble Rot will be curating the tight wine list, with around 10-12 bottles and at least half that number on offer by the glass. We love Da Terra so we’re sure Elis is going to be another hit for Rafael.
