Sentencing of prisoner who fled to Oxford delayed until January

An escaped prisoner who was on the run for 10 days will be sentenced in the new year.

James Brosnan, 39, walked out of HMP Ford in Sussex on August 10.

He was at large for a week and a half before calling police in Oxford and telling them where he was. But he warned them that he would shoot the officers who came to find him.

The threat was an empty one. When he was found in Jericho by armed officers he had no firearm on him.

He appeared before Oxford Crown Court on Monday afternoon to be sentenced for a single count of escape from lawful custody.

However, following representations from defence barrister Julian Lynch, Recorder Paul Reid adjourned the case to January 20 for pre-sentence reports.
