A man who shoved a student against a wall and shouted ‘stand and deliver’ was given a community order.

Magnus Pitt, 48, formerly of Bedford Street, Oxford, pushed the male student outside Magdalen College’s High Street entrance on November 29 last year and shouted the highwayman’s refrain, made famous in Adam Ant’s 1981 Top 40 hit.

He was charged with assault with intent to rob the man of his jumper, but pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of common assault ahead of his trial.

On Thursday, Judge Ian Pringle QC sentenced him to the 18 month community order, with requirements to complete a year-long drug rehabilitation programme and up to 20 probation service sessions.

The judge had previously adjourned sentence for the preparation of probation service reports. He was told that Pitt had been working closely with health agencies in London, where he is now living.
