OXFORD United’s bid for a new stadium will face further reconsultation with the public following the submission of new documents.

The U’s see their licence agreement at the Kassam Stadium run out in 2026, and the club is looking to build a new home at The Triangle, south of Kidlington Roundabout.

A planning application for a 16,000-capacity ground was submitted to Cherwell District Council at the end of February, while in May, a legally binding lease option with Oxfordshire County Council was signed.

It was announced in June that the application would not be considered until early next year due to further information on matters such as transport and ecology being requested.

Last month, United submitted a confidential pre-application request to Cherwell District Council, with the document exploring the potential of a footbridge over Oxford Road linking Oxford Parkway and the proposed new stadium.

This morning, the initial planning application’s supporting documents tab on the Cherwell online planning portal was updated with a note from the local authority.

It stated that the council will undertake a period of statutory reconsultation ‘following the receipt of additional environmental information, pursuant to the council’s request for further information’.

The council states that the U’s have submitted an environmental statement addendum, revised application documents and revised plans.

The local authority added: “The council is awaiting receipt of further information relating to alternative site assessment.

“Upon receipt of this additional information, there will be a further period of reconsultation, which is likely to be in the New Year.

“Please be advised that whilst there is no statutory obligation to take late comments into account, we will exercise discretion in a positive manner and accept late comments, as far as it is reasonably practicable to do so, up until the application is ready to be determined.

“Late responses may only be made via email or letter.”
