GARY Rowett said he was as disappointed as he has been after a match, as he criticised his Oxford United side for their naivety in the 2-1 defeat at Hull City.
United took the lead via Michal Helik after 66 minutes, but conceded twice within the next 10 minutes to find themselves behind.
U’s head coach Rowett was frustrated with the manner in which his team saw out the game, in failing to threaten for an equaliser.
Gary Rowett: ‘Probably the harshest I’ve been with the players’
He said: “I’m incredibly disappointed. That’s probably about as disappointed after a football match that I think I’ve been.
“I didn’t think there was much in the teams. I felt as though we got ourselves into a great position, and we looked quite threatening around the time of the goal, and to go 1-0 up, it’s just really disappointing to end up losing the game 2-1.
“I don’t necessarily think that Hull have done that much to go and get the two goals, that’s the thing.
“If you look at the end of the game, and how hard we’ve got to work to try and create something. It was very naive late on when we’ve got defenders in the box and bodies in the box, and we’re trying to play intricate football round the sides.
“Just cross the ball, get the ball in the box. You don’t need to do anything else, and see if we can create some moments, and we ended up passing the ball out of play on four or five occasions, which showed a lot of naivety at this level. We don’t need to do that.”
