OXFORD United are likely to appeal the straight red card shown to Tyler Goodrham in the closing stages of the Emirates FA Cup defeat to Exeter City.
Goodrham was dismissed with nine minutes to go at St James Park in the third round tie, following a reaction to a tug on his shirt.
Jake Richards pulled at Goodrham and dragged him back, leading to the U’s player throwing his arm back, whereupon he caught Richards.
The red card means Goodrham faces a three-game ban, ruling him out of Sky Bet Championship games at Plymouth Argyle tomorrow, and then at home to Blackburn Rovers and Luton Town.

The FA states ‘the period of suspension will commence immediately’ unless a claim of wrongful dismissal is submitted, therefore if United are to appeal, Goodrham could become available for the trip to Argyle, with an appeal meeting then likely to take place prior to the Rovers game.
U’s head coach Gary Rowett said this morning: “Tyler at this moment in time is going to be unavailable I’d imagine for three games, so that’s a bit of a blow.
“I think we will appeal it. I’ll speak to the club again, but I think we will appeal it. When you watch it back, he’s tried to free himself.
“It’s a straight arm. The arm has caught the player just under the chin. I don’t think it was malicious, but I think proving he hasn’t done it with that intent is obviously very difficult.
“We know the type of player he is, but whether a referee is going to change his mind, or whether a panel can change theirs too, but I think we’ll probably look to appeal that.”
