“WE'RE completely devastated and shocked,” say neighbours after a woman was found dead in Wallingford with “serious injuries”.

Thames Valley Police officers were called to Blue Mountains today (August 30) at 2am and found a woman in her forties to have suffered serious injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 28-year-old man from Wallingford has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Neighbours opposite the block of flats where the woman was found said they are “completely devastated that something like this has happened”.

Choosing to stay anonymous, they said: “We don’t know about anything about it. We didn’t even know anything had happened until recently.

“It’s shocking this has happened in Wallingford. All our living quarters are in the back of the house so we wouldn’t have heard anything but it’s just so sad.”

Another neighbour opposite the block of flats added: “It’s so shocking this has happened.

“We keep ourselves to ourselves so we don’t really know anybody around here but we didn’t expect it at all.

“We didn’t hear anything but we’re quite far away from the block of flats.”

A third neighbour to the right-hand side of the block of flats said they were in “disbelief” and were upset as they knew the victim.

“I have known her since I’ve been living here which is 13 years,” she said. “She had always been so friendly.

“A lot of people are going to miss her. It’s shocking this has happened and she was just such a nice person.”

One neighbour had been away for the Bank Holiday and was shocked to hear about the incident in their “fairly quiet” estate.

They said: “After a weekend away for the Bank Holiday, the very last thing we expected was to come home to was a murder right on our door step.

“We’ve always found the estate to be fairly quiet and drama free but I guess you really do never know what goes on behind closed doors.”

Thames Valley Police are currently carrying out a scene watch and encourage anyone with concerns to speak to one of the officers.

Forensic officers could be seen entering the flats at about 2.15pm today (August 30) while some neighbours sat outside watching.
