WHAT TO SEE AT LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL 2022

Byoxfordnewspaper

Sep 5, 2022
London Design Festival is back for 2022 and it’s going to be a big celebration of all things design, with special projects based around themes like the co-existence of the meta and the physical, materiality and movement, and gathering and contemplation. Here are our top installations and exhibitions to see this LDF…

INTO SIGHT by Sony Design

Sony Design is exploring the coexistence of meta and physical realities with the INTO SIGHT installation, which uses a 220-inch Crystal LED screen, glass walls and reflective surfaces to create an infinite sense of space. You can step inside the rectangular platform and as you move through it, the light, sound and colour will shift and evolve with your interactions, creating an emotional response that’s individual to you.

Design London

After its LDF debut last year, Design London is back at Magazine London on Greenwich Peninsula, a Design District for the festival, for 2022. A range of international furniture, lighting and interiors brands will be showcasing their stuff at the fair; Lee Broom, Sabine Marcelis and Jay Blades will all be in conversation; Korean lighting company AGO and London-based design studio Haberdashery will be illuminating the place with installations; and Kohler and Lois O’Hara will be taking over the front of the building.

Swivel by Sabine Marcelis

Sabine Marcelis is bringing colour to St Giles Square, just by Tottenham Court Road, with Swivel. The interactive installation is a playground of seating made up of natural materials and varying shades and patterns, contrasting with the man-made glass and concrete buildings surrounding the square. It’s designed to celebrate materiality and movement, so stop off before you jump on the tube and enjoy a moment in the space.

Henge by Stanton Williams

Taking inspo from Neolithic stone structures that were used as gathering spaces, Henge is a participatory installation in Canary Wharf where you can relax and contemplate the world. The sculpture itself is made out of 150 million year old Jurassic limestone (making it zero carbon and recyclable) and there’ll be music, sound design, lighting and even spontaneous musical and reading performances happening in and around the space.
