Witney MP Robert Courts has welcomed the election of Liz Truss as prime minister.
Mr Courts tweeted: "Many congratulations to @trussliz on her election as Leader of the Conservative Party. With the contest now over, it is important that we all unite to overcome the huge challenges we face and continue to deliver for our country."
West Oxfordshire Conservative Association welcomed the Tory leadership hopeful to Carterton during her campaign.
Her rival former chancellor Rishi Sunak also visited Witney to meet Conservative party members.
This morning she has become the UK’s third female Prime Minister after meeting the Queen at Balmoral.
Outgoing PM Boris Johnson used his farewell address to pledge “fervent support” to his successor.
Ms Truss will head to Downing Street to deliver her first speech in office and will then begin putting in place her team of officials and ministers.
Key allies and supporters already pencilled in for some of the most senior roles include Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng who is widely expected to be given the crucial role of chancellor.
