These young swimmers were determined not only to enjoy themselves in the water but to raise money for those less able than themselves.
There were, left to right, Louise Brady, Tara Davies and Jackie Brough, all 13, and Jackie’s brother Alan, 10, all members of Didcot swimming club.
They clocked up 274 lengths of the town’s swimming pool in 1983.

They are seen handing over toys bought with the money they raised to Dudley Butcher, chairman of Didcot Toy Library committee.
Tara said: “We just wanted to do something useful in our spare time.”

In return for their generosity and goodwill, Mr Butcher presented all four with toy library medals of honour.
