Citizens Advice issues urgent call for volunteers

Citizens Advice West Oxfordshire is urgently looking for volunteers to support local people with issues arising from the cost of living crisis.

These could include debt, housing, benefit and employment problems.

The West Oxfordshire charity supported 8,823 people last year and gives free, independent and confidential advice from trained advisers.

The role involves taking calls, responding to web chat, meeting clients face-to-face, and working with colleagues to provide the best support possible for people who contact them.

Each adviser works with each client to understand their needs, then, with professional support from qualified and experienced supervisors, undertakes research to find the best advice to give.

A comprehensive training programme will be given, with the next induction planned for early this autumn.

Generally volunteers are asked to contribute at least eight hours per week, which can be done flexibly either in the central Witney office, its HUB on Station Lane or even from your own home.

Teresa Archer, chief officer at Citizens Advice West Oxfordshire, said: “As a volunteer, you’ll learn about a range of issues affecting local people. We provide all the training and support you’ll need to work with us to help people solve their problems.

“It’s a challenging but highly rewarding role. If you’re keen to build on your skills and do something that really makes a difference, we’d love to hear from you.”
