Thames Valley Police has revealed no arrests were made at a double protest in Oxford city centre.

Yesterday morning (August 24) around 20 protesters demonstrated outside Oxfordshire County Library, which is located in the Westgate Centre.

The demonstration was related to a Drag Queen Story Hour event that was being held at the library for children aged between three and eight.

The protesters felt the event was inappropriate for children and so held a banner which read “welcome groomers”.

In turn, about 150 counter protesters came out to support the drag performer, library and families attending the event.

The counter protesters played music on a loud speaker, waved pride flags and chanted “say it loud, say it clear, drag queens are welcome here”.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “Thames Valley Police was in attendance at a protest in connection with an event at the library in Oxford today. Officers engaged with those who were in attendance and no arrests were made.”
