OXFORD City rounded off pre-season with a defeat.

Alex Gudger scored the only goal of the game for hosts Brackley Town, as the Hoops now turn their attention to their debut Vanarama National League campaign.

In the clash with Brackley, the first chance fell to Ross Jenkins’ side with two minutes on the clock. Aaron Williams-Bushell’s cross found Josh Parker but his effort was straight at Danny Lewis in the Brackley goal.

The hosts had a sniff of goal when Dan Turner swivelled and shot inside the box, with the effort hitting the sidenetting.

The Hoops began the second half strongly, with Parker denied when one-on-one with Lewis.

The home side settled and James Armson saw a shot smothered by Chris Haigh after skipping past a series of challenges.

Moments later, Gudger opened the scoring when he acrobatically put the ball in the net after a goalmouth scramble.

Jenkins’ side begin their historic National League campaign away to Aldershot Town on Saturday.

Banbury United finished pre-season with a 1-0 win at home to Maidenhead United.

With 20 minutes to go, Jack Davies fired home from a corner.

Craig Hewitt then hit the bar, before a late block from Davies and save from Jack Harding allowed the Puritans to hold on.

Mark Jones’ side welcome Spennymoor Town in their National League North opener.
