Oxford man drove recklessly down M40 with false plates

An Oxford man recklessly drove along the M40 with false plates and no driving license.

Karl Barrett, who lives on Old Abingdon Road, was sentenced to four months and two weeks in prison after he pleaded guilty to three offences on Thursday, March 2.

These included driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and the fraudulent use of a registration plate at Oxford Magistrates Court The 36-year-old can no longer drive for a year and six months after he was caught by officers on December 17, 2022.

Officers followed Mr Barrett after his Ford Transit drove past in a poor condition, and drove recklessly along a stretch of the M40.

After being stopped by police, it was found Mr Barrett was a disqualified driver, was not insured on the vehicle and his car had false plates.

Joint Roads Policing Unit investigating officer PC Chris Weatherley said: “I am pleased that Barrett has been sentenced to time in prison for these driving offences.

“Barratt has a significant history of driving offences, he has shown persistent disregard for the law and the sentences imposed on him.

“We will always investigate these offences thoroughly to keep the roads of the Thames Valley a safe place.”
